Australia has gotten off to a strong start on the opening morning of the second ICF canoe sprint World Cup in Racice, Czech Republic.
NSWIS pair Jo Brigden-Jones and Naomi Flood were the first Australians to hit the water in a newly formed K2 boat combination.
The experienced pair cruised through to the K2 500 semifinals after finishing an impressive second in their heat.
The Aussie pair finished 3.814 seconds behind Belarus duo Sofiya Yurchanka and Nadzeya Liapeshka who won the third heat in 1:53.284.
Heavyweights Ken Wallace and Murray Stewart advanced to the K1 1000 semifinals after each finished second in their respective heats.
Wallace is coming off a sixth place finish at World Cup 1.
The 30 year old finished just under a second behind Portuguese star Fernando Pimenta who won their heat in 3:48.151.
Stewart featured in a much faster heat four which was won by World Cup 1 victor Max Hoff.
The German produced a time of 3:43.781 to finish 1.992 seconds ahead of Stewart.
All four Australians will feature in semifinals later this evening. Before then Flood will contest the K1 1000W heats before the K4 1000 Olympic champions hit the water.
