Robert McIntyre commenced his European Wildwater tour on the weekend with a bronze medal in the ICF International ranking sprint race on > the 'Ice Canal' in Augsburg Germany.
The open men K1 event had 25 starters mainly German paddlers and some Dutch paddlers along with McIntyre. After the first run he was in second place by only 0.07 seconds behind the fastest qualifier.
The final was a close affair with only 0.38 seconds between the top 3. Tobias Bong won the event in a time of 51.52 seconds. Closely behind him was Bjoen Beerschwenger in a time of 51.62 seconds and McIntyre was third in a time of 51.90 seconds.
McIntyre said it was good to get on some solid whItewater and race and get a feel of where he was at against the likes of Bong and Beerschwenger who are always up near the top of the placings in international events.
McIntyre's next event will be the German Wildwater championships in 2 weeks time before moving over to Italy to train for 2 weeks on the demanding Adda river in the lead up to the World Wildwater championships that commence on the 10th June.
