Jacob Clear & David Smith
The 2014 Queensland Sprint Championships get underway tomorrow at Lake Kawana on the Sunshine Coast.
The senior men’s kayakers will make an appearance on Saturday to race the 1000 metre distance but will not race on Sunday.
Currumbin Creek champion Ken Wallace and London Olympic K4 1000 gold medallist Jacob Clear will be amongst the favourites to clinch the open men’s K1 1000 crown.
The Championships will provide an opportunity for U23 and junior athletes to impress with Sunshine Coast kayaker Bill Bain, Gold Coast’s Jordan Wood and Currumbin Creek teenager Joel McKitterick just three names to key a close eye on.
In the women’s events expect local Kawana Waters pair Alyssa Bull and Madi Rose to fight it out with SASI paddler Catherine McArthur, Canadian Emilie Fournel and Sunshine Coast duo Stacey Higgins and Coco Howcroft for the senior women’s titles.
Racing will start at 8:00am local time.
