Australia's K1 women have got Australia off to a solid start on day one of the 2013 canoe slalom Oceania Championships on the mighty Mangahao River in New Zealand.
2012 London Olympic silver medallist Jessica Fox currently trails top Czech junior Karolina Galuskova by two seconds following the qualification runs on Saturday morning.
Fox posted the quickest time of 98.71 down the course, but a gate touch relegated the 18 year old to second position with Victoria’s Sarah Grant just behind in third.
The younger Fox, Noemie, fresh off the back of her victory at the Youth Olympic Festival in Penrith earlier in the month also showed good signs qualifying for the semi in tenth.
The action is set to intensify this afternoon with the men’s C1 paddlers featuring Western Australian Olympic duo Kynan Maley and Robin Jeffery, as well as NSWIS canoeist Ian Borrows hit the course.
