2005 Australian Youth Olympic Festival (January 19-23)

The Australian Youth Olympic Festival is a multi-sport event for young Olympic aspirants generally between the ages of 14–19 yrs. From 19-23 January 2005, the Australian Youth Olympic Festival will provide the highest level of competition to 1400 elite junior athletes in 14 summer Olympic sports. An initiative of the Australian Olympic Committee, the Australian Youth Olympic Festival is conducted in cooperation with the National Sporting Federations and will feature the best young male and female athletes from Australia, Oceania, East Asia and in some sports the world.

The Australian Youth Olympic Festival is a commitment by the Australian Olympic Committee to support developing athletes in Australia and the Oceania region through the provision of an Olympic-type experience, in a highly competitive and educational environment. Our future Olympians will emerge from the 2005 Australian Youth Olympic Festival.

The Australian Youth Olympic Festival reflects the Olympic Games in substance and will feature elements of the Olympic Games model. The event will provide an outstanding opportunity for young Olympic aspirants to follow in the footsteps of their Olympic heroes in Olympic style events and venues.
