Rights and responsibilities of Australian Canoeing Award Scheme participants

Participants have the right to:

  • Be treated fairly and with respect by NTP and AC staff and other students, in line with equity and anti-discrimination legislation
  • Privacy, dignity and confidentiality
  • Quality provision of courses that recognise and appreciate individual needs and learning styles and contain no hidden costs
  • Complain through appropriate channels
  • Appeal for a review of the results of an assessment
  • Be protected from all forms of harassment
  • Know about policies relevant to their participation in an AC Award Scheme program
  • A safe and clean learning environment.

Students have the responsibility to:

  • Behave in an acceptable and appropriate manner towards other participants, as well as NTP and AC staff. This means treating others with respect and fairness, in line with equity and anti-discrimination legislation
  • Read about policies relevant to their participation in an AC Award Scheme program and ask questions if necessary to confirm understanding
  • Behave in a manner that maintains the personal safety of the participant, as well as that of others
  • Ensure that paddling activities undertaken leave minimal impact on the environment
  • Refrain from swearing or other behaviour that may offend, embarrass, or threaten others
  • When completing assessment tasks:
    • Complete all assessment tasks without engaging in plagiarism or any other form of cheating
    • Submit all assessment tasks within 6 months of the due date, or follow appropriate channels to ask for an extension if exceptional circumstances prevail.
