When/Where/Why did you begin the sport?
I had been paddling 6 man outriggers with a Gold Coast club for approximately 2 years when I was asked if I was interested in trying kayaking. So in February 2010 I sat in a kayak for the first time under the guidance of Andrea Wood (Para Canoe coach). Within the first five minutes I knew this was going to be a huge challenge just to stay upright, before even attempting to paddle a few strokes! But I love a challenge and I love the freedom of being on the water – so I persevered and finally managed a few strokes, then a few more strokes, then a few sprints and a marathon.
Greatest Sporting achievement?
My greatest sporting achievement is being able to paddle a kayak on my own, successfully complete a marathon and race at the World Championships in a category above mine and not come last!
What are your future goals?
My future goal is to master my V1 with an aim of racing it in 2012.
Greatest Influence on your career?
Andrea Wood – for her tireless support and faith in me to achieve my goals on the water.
What keeps you busy outside of the sport?
Friends, gym, swimming and work.
Who inspires you?
Sam Stosur
