Powerhouse British canoe polo team continues to dominate

Great Britain's 45+ Canoe Polo team continues to dominate their opposition, scoring an impressive 19-0 victory over Aussie team, the Masterfuls in their first match of the day on Sunday.

Team GBR45+ took possession of the game in the first half, scoring 10 goals, with strong defence keeping the Masterfuls scoreless.

The Masterfuls had little chance to score in the second half, with GBR45+ netting 9 impressive goals. The Mastersfuls had an opening with one minute to go, but the attempt was skilfully blocked by GB’s goalkeeper Dave Brown.

"We have trained hard and have come half way around the world to be here, GBR45+ team member Gregor Smale said. "So our intention is to win some medals.

"We have come here to win, not to be second!"

Smale, a police officer from Bedford in England, uses canoeing to keep fit for his job.

A few members of the GBR45+ squad were part of Great Britain's national team, so they're able to demonstrate their confidence with accurate passing and shooting, and strong defence.

Masterfuls goalkeeper Frank Fielder was impressed.

"It was a tough game," he said. "But we also expected it, going by their previous games. We try to do the best we can, live life and enjoy."

GBR45+ is sitting comfortably on top of their group of 45+ men's canoe polo with six points and a big advantage on goal difference.

They are expected to ease their way into the semi-final on Monday.
