Boon Brings Home the Bronze

Australian Canoeing, Monday, 19 June 2006

After a hectic day, the Australian Junior Kayak Team came away with some solid results including a bronze medal.

There were some great performances by the junior team overall, surpassing the efforts of junior teams in the past.

Our K1 crews of Chris Sirote and Dean Blanche and K2 pairs Sam Norton/Dean Blanche and Oliver Dunstan/Tim Donkin were unfortunate not to qualify for their respective finals.

Dunstan and Donkin had been one of the form K2 crews of the tour, however 200 metres form the start collected 12" of rope around their rudder and were forced to stop, backpaddle and remove it before they could continue. They will look to avenge this in the 500m event.

In the U/16 K1 1000 Haydn Boon finished 3rd after a close tussle. He was the only medallist for the day and continued his success to qualify for the U16 K1 500 semifinals as well in the afternoon
