The latest technology in boat architecture combined with ideal technique, Sprint Kayaking provides an indication of the true athlete showcasing the pinnacle of strength, speed and endurance on water.
Sprint paddlers also participate in Marathon Racing, which requires a combination of strength endurance and fitness plus tactical and technical skills.
Southside Paddlers have a small and enthusiastic young squad. The structure is set up to cater for beginner paddlers and those coming across from surf ski paddling to develop in a nurturing environment, training towards Sprint, Marathon and Surf seasons.
The main focus of the squad structure is to create progressive steps for junior paddlers to improve in Sprint Kayaking. Squad training is conducted under the guidance of SSP Head Coaches Brian Trouville ( Leve 2 Flatwater Canoe Coach and NSWIS Network Coach) and Rod Smith ( Level 1 Flatwater Canoe Coach) , with paddlers competing in events such as the Paddle NSW sprint series, the National GP series and National Championships as well as local events which build fitness throughout the year. Training programs are catered to each squad by the coach with sessions ranging from 3-10 sessions/week dependant on the time of season.
